About First Yell

First Yell is an event put on by the Texas Aggie Yell Leaders to welcome all Aggies, current and former students, back to campus to kickoff the coming school year and Aggie football season.  Activities include a live performance by a major comedian and several student performance groups.  This year, the Fightin' Texas Aggie Yell Leaders presented Brian Regan.

Critics and peers agree: Brian Regan has distinguished himself as one of the premier comedians in the country.  The perfect balance of sophisticated writing and physicality, Brian fills theaters nationwide with fervent fans that span generations.

Releasing two consecutive critically acclaimed hour Comedy Central specials and DVDs in 2007 and 2008 - “The Epitome of Hyperbole,” and “Brian Regan Standing Up” - Brian has set a standard of excellence that others continually try to follow.

Brian’s non-stop theater tour has visited more than 80 cities each year.  It is the quality of his material, relatable to a wide audience and revered by his peers, which continues to grow Brian’s fan base.  In March Brian broke the record for the most consecutive shows by a comedian at Abravanal Hall in Salt Lake City with five sold out performances!

First Yell also featured student performance groups including the Aggie Wranglers, Singing Cadets, and Percussion Studio.

History

First Yell was started by the Yell Leaders in 1999 as a way of welcoming all Aggies, current and former students, back to campus to begin a new school year. First Yell occurs on the weekend of the first home football game and includes several different events:

  • Midnight Yell Practice – the first Midnight Yell Practice of the new football season.
  • Aggie Football – the Aggies beat the hell outta whoever we are playing that week!

The featured event of the weekend occurs on Friday night before Midnight Yell Practice. The Yell Leaders host a major performance in Reed Arena, which features the best student talent on campus, as well as a world class entertainer. Student performers at First Yell have included the Singing Cadets, Aggie Wranglers, Percussion Studio, and Fruedian Slip. The major entertainers have been:
